P.J. Simmons, Advisor, Strategy
and Programs
P.J. joined Sea Studios in June 2006 after four years as Special Advisor at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (RBF), where he created the U.S. in the World program (now at the New America Foundation) that produced U.S. in the World: Talking Global Issues with Americans—A Practical Guide. He was founding director of the Managing Global Issues project at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where he co-authored and co-edited Managing Global Issues: Lessons Learned. Prior to that, he launched The Greener Business Guide, Washington DC’s first guide to environmentally friendly businesses. Previously, P.J. founded and directed the Environmental Change and Security Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He has also worked for the National Security Council's Global Environmental Affairs Directorate and has published on global governance, environmental security, the role of NGOs and civil society in international relations. Simmons received his B.A. in political science (summa cum laude) from Tufts University, his M.A. from Johns Hopkins SAIS, was a Fulbright scholar in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and received a certificate in conservation biology from Columbia University. He speaks Spanish fluently, has highly proficient French and intermediate knowledge of Portuguese, and basic knowledge of Russian and Serbo-Croatian. P.J. is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations. |
